Disaster Preparedness

Life can change for many families at any instant in form of natural and artificial disasters that can take loved ones and that can drive families from their homes. The most recent disasters all over the world have been floods, landslides, food shortage, earth quakes, among others. Whereas some of these disasters can be prevented, Set Them Free International aims to do the following:

  • In order to promote food security, Set Them Free International aims to educate and to compel people in rural areas to involve in commercial agricultural production in order to avert the current food shortage and improve the livelihoods of the people living below poverty line through provision of the following farm implements/inputs.  We also intend to enable and motivate children and youths to take interest in agricultural, poultry and piggery farming, among other local community people provide them with varieties of improved seeds (beans, simsim, sunflower, sorghum, soya beans, cow peas, ground nuts, etc) and Hoes, axes, pangas and slashers. And we also plan for modern implements like the use of tractors (We shall start with one tractor per village at a time).

  • We are aiming to create National Humanitarian Support and Disaster Preparedness Teams (NHSDPT) in every district in Uganda due to natural disasters which are on the increase in our communities. In preparation for the unexpected disasters, calamities, emergencies and other crisis; which are in no doubt on the increase in number and magnitude, and are affecting vulnerable and unprotected people; we kick started the above mechanism year 2009 by providing the initial training for 50 personnel in the Kampala district, this was well attended and the commissioner from the Ministry of Disaster was in attendance too.  The total number registered so far is 4100 personnel who are ready to be trained;  So it is our responsibility, love and duty to prepare our country in case of any disaster.
